Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to quantitatively measure floating particles in a fluid by selecting a wavelength not directly affected by the particle diameter distribution of floating particles as the wavelength of an electromagnetic wave. CONSTITUTION:The damping quantity of light by flying ashes in a light permeating method depends greatly upon the particle diameter distribution, and when the wavelength of light rays used is changed, there exists an optimum wavelength substantially unrelated to the particle diameter distribution. Accordingly, from the floating particles those having large particle diameters are removed. Then, the wavelength of light is changed to obtain the maximum value and minimum value of the damping quantity. By using these values the ratio between the maximum damping quantity and the minimum damping quantity of each wavelength to obtain the wavelength characteristic. In this case, although four minimum values exist, those of optimum wavelength of the ratio close to 1 are preferable. Consequently, if the wavelength a is adapted, the maximum error is suppressed to 18% or less, thus the reliability of the measurement being greatly improved and the continuous measurement being possible.
