Abstract

PURPOSE: To keep long-term denitrification at lower running cost by controlling the molal concentration of ethylenediamine teraacetic acid and the concentration of denatured ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid on the basis of iron.
CONSTITUTION: NOx-containing waste gas is brought into contact with a solution containing a complex consisting of iron ion, polyaminocarboxylic acid, and its salt, sulfurous acid ion, and acid sulfurous acid ion for denitrification. In this case, the denitrification is made by regulating the molal concentration of ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid within a range of 0.9 to 1 on the basis of iron and letting the denatured ethylenediamine substance, e.g., ethylenediamine triacetic acid, etc., coexist in an amount of less than 0.05 moles in denitrification liquid, whereby denitrification can be performed without lowering the rate of denaturation. Thus, it is possible to reduce the running cost of denitrification plant without lowering the efficiency of denitrification and yield of gypsum even if the amount of ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid to supply is reduced.
