Abstract

PURPOSE: To stabilize the cooling capacity in a self-cooling bearing with self-contained oil for a water wheel by constructing a cover and a metal case in one body for cooling bearing-lubricating oil by the use of the running water in a back pressure chamber above a runner and providing the circulation of the cooled oil in an oil tank.
CONSTITUTION: The lubricating oil with raised temperature scattered from the sliding face between a main shaft 7 and a bearing 4 for a water wheel is conducted on a bearing tray 5 without dropping to an oil surface to flow down a connecting pipe 6. Since the lubricating oil cooled at the bottom of an oil tank is risen by the volume of the expanded lubricating oil with raised temperature pushed out from the connecting pipe 6 to make a circulation, a stable cooling can be given to the periphery of the bearing. The bottom of the oil tank is always cooled by the pressure water running through a back pressure chamber above a runner 8 without and need forced cooling.
