Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an extrudate with smooth surface and good appearance by a method wherein the polyethylene obtained by copolymerization of a ethylenoid unsaturated silane compound is mixed with polypropylene and extruded and the extrudata thus produced is cross-linked in contact with water in the presence of a silanol condensation catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The polyethylene obtained through copolymerization of ethylenoid unsaturated silane compound having hydrolyzable organic radical such as vinyl trimethoxy-silane, vinyl triethoxy-silane and vinyl triacetoxy-silane is mixed with 1-15%-weight or, desirably 2-6%-weight of polypropylene. Next, the composition thus obtained is extruded and the extrudate is cross-linked in contact with water in the presence of about 0.001-10%-weight of silanol condensation catalyst such as dibutyl-tin-dilauret and dioctyl-tin-dilauret, thereby the desired extrudate being obtained.
