CONSTITUTION: In treating heavy clay soil with basic aluminum chloride or basic aluminum nitrate, the soil is improved by employing a hydroxide of an alkaline earth metal in an amount to provide a ratio MO/R2O3 of 0.5W5wt%, wherein M is an alkaline earth metal and R is Al or a combination of Al and trivalent Fe.
