Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide molding material useful for forming diaphragm which is used for a speaker, is highly elastic and lightweight, and has high internal loss characteristics, obtd. by a method wherein a polymeric material is mixed with graphite powder and carbon black and the mixt. is kneaded.
CONSTITUTION: Required amounts of graphite powder 2 having an average particle diameter of not more than 20μ in the form of scale powder, and carbon black 3 are added to a polymeric material 1 such as polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, or polyvinyl chloride-acetate copolymer. The mixt. is kneaded by a kneader or roll, while heating to the melt temperature of the polymeric material, to obtain the desired molding material. In order to form a diaphragm from the molding material, the molding material is rolled to form a sheet. The orientation of the graphite powder 2 is arranged in parallel with the surface of the sheet material. The sheet material is molded into the shape of the desired diaphragm A by vacuum forming, press molding, etc. It is preferred to carry out further carbonization and graphitization treatment to further improve the elastic coefficient of the diaphragm A.
