Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain title molded article useful as a separator for a battery, by a method wherein a liquid of a hydrophilic nature-imparting powder is penetrated into pores of a porous plastic molded article and the molded article is streched under heating condition to remove the solvent and to retain the hydrophilic nature-imparting powder within the pores.
CONSTITUTION: A molded article of a porous thermoplastic polymer such as polyethylene or polypropylene which can be streched is coated with a liquid in which a hydrophilic nature-imparting powder such as silicon dioxide, kaolin, or chromium oxide is dissolved or decomposed in a solvent, in order to penetrate the liquid into pores of the porous plastic molded article. The porous plastic molded article is streched at least in one direction under heating condition with a draw ratio of usually 20W600%, preferably 40W550%, and thereby the solvent for the liquid of the hydrophilic nature-imparting powder is removed and the hydrophilic nature-imparting powder is retained within the pores of the porous plastic molded article to obtain the desired molded article.
