Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain porous hollow polypropylene fibers having improved gas permeabitlity and its stability with time in good productivity, by drawing undrawn hollow fibers having an elastic recovery higher than 60% under specibic conditions, followed by drawing and heat-setting.
CONSTITUTION: Unraum highly oriented fibers, prepared from polypropylene having good melt formability and a relatively low polymerization degree, are heated- treated under tension to give highly oriented crystalline undrawn holoow fibers having an elastic recovery ≥ 60%, preferably ≥ 90%, which are then primarily drawn at- 20W130°C, and secondarily drawn at a temperature above the primary drawing temperature but lower than 165°C, then heat-set at 130W165°C, to improve the shape stability.
USE: Usable for various purposes, e.g. substrates for gas separation ultrafiltration, and reverse osmosis membranes, other aeration, etc.
