Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve measurement precision by finding a shape from a group of data of lines of fractionized dots.
CONSTITUTION: To computer 4, shape detector 2, memory unit 5, plotter 6, graphic display unit 7, and teletypewriter 8 of a three-dimensional digital measuring instrument, etc., are connected. Then, the contour shape of cylindrical body 1 is measured by shape detector 2, whose measurement result is inputted to computer 4 in the form of dot-line data, expressed by rectangular coordinate values and polar coordinate values in space with pitches fractionized enough to obtain preset sufficient measurement precision, to find the center and radius of cylindrical body 1 in the minimum square-law method, which are stored in memory unit 5. Next, those memory values and dot-line data, detected to check the fraction of shape defective, are displayed on plotter 6 or graphic display 7 overlapping with each other to detect the shape defective. Consequently, the shape defective in a symmetric shape can clearly be detected.
