Abstract

PURPOSE:To achieve high sensitivity, small size, light weight, low power and long life of an image pickup device, by using plural reflecting planes of polyhedral columnar rotating mirror as horizontal scanners. CONSTITUTION:An incident luminous flux passes through an afocal telescope 1 and is reflected by an oscillating mirror 3 through the first reflecting plane of a polyhedral columnar rotating mirror 2. Then, the light is reflected by the second reflecting plane of the polyhedral columnar rotating mirror 2, and is converged on a detector 6 by means of a detector lens 5. The output signal of the detector 6 is displayed in a display device through a video signal processor. When the polyhedral columnar rotating mirror 2 turns by theta as shown by dotted line, the incident light is rotated twice by the polyhedral columnar rotating mirror, so that the incident light flux direction is scanned by 4theta. Therefore, when scanning a specified field with a specified number of rasters, the rotating speed of the polyhedral columnar mirror may be lower, and the oscillating mirror of smaller driving moment may be used, so that high sensitivity, small size, light weight, low power, and long life may be achieved.
