Abstract

PURPOSE: To separate a mixture of benzene, cyclohexene and cyclohexane into its components, by using a plurality of serially connected separation columns each containing a zeolite adsorbent having a specific pore diameter and a specific SiO2/ Al2O3 ratio, and a developing agent, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture obtained by the selective hydrogenation of benzene, is treated with a plurality of separation columns connected in series, containing a zeolite adsorbent having a pore diameter of ≥5.5Å and an SiO2/Al2O3 ratio of ≤8.5. The adsorption is pref. carried out in two steps, i.e. benzene is separated in the first step, and cyclohexene is separated from cyclohexane in the second step. The zeolite is pref. the faujasite-type one. The adsorbed compounds is desorbed with a substituting agent or a developing agent (e.g. toluene, 1-butene, etc.), which is fed alternately with the mixture to be separated, to the column (the chromatographic process).
