Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect the presence and the absence of a liquid metal by a mechanism wherein a specific liquid metal detector is inserted into a packing material within a trap for removing impurities contd. in the vapor of a liq. metal or in the gas contg. mist as well as cooling the said gas in order to change the phase of the voltage of both exciting coil and detecting coil of the detector.
CONSTITUTION: A cover gas containing e.g. Na vapor and mist from a liquid metal cooling high speed breeder reactor enters a trap barrel 1 from a inflow pipe 3 and passes through a packing material 2. In this case, Na vapor or mist is externally cooled and condensed on a surface of a packing material 2. If this Na 5 is adhered to points AWD, a Na detector 7 is raised and lowered within an introducing pipe 6 by a drive apparatus 14 and, if Na is present around a pipe 6, phase difference is generated between a magnetically exciting coil 8 and a detecting coil 9 excited by a constant electric source 17. Thereby, an adhered portion of Na is detected certainly and a necessary time for maintainance, inspection, washing, exchange or the like can be correctly concluded.
