Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the enzyme eletrode of superior softness and workability and high activity by fixing enzyme on the electrode substrate obtained by adding a binder and fixing assistant to the mixture of electron conductive material and redox compound.
CONSTITUTION: Polytetrafluoroethylene, styrene-butadiene rubber, polyvinyl alcohol, etc. are used for the binder and the compounds having multiple amino groups in molecules (albumin, polylysine, etc.) are used for the fixing assistant. More specifically, carbon powder (electron conductive material) 100pts.wt., aqueous dispersion of polytetrafluoroethylene (specific gravity about 1.5, solids abour 60wt%) (binder) about 10W20pts.wt., and albumin (fixing assistant) about 5pts.wt. are mixed and the mixture is dehydrated and dried, after which chloranil (redox compound) is added and mixed. Next, this is molded to the sheet-form electrode substrate, thence an aqueous glucose oxidase solution is coated on the electrode substrate followed by drying, thence the enzyme is fixed by using glutaraldehyde as a crosslinking reagent.
