Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the erroneous operations of a level meter by heating an electric insulator, which is interposed between a detecting rod and a flange attaching the rod to a structure, so that level detecting operations are performed only when the insulator is sufficiently heated.
CONSTITUTION: A detecting rod 3 has an exothermic element 6 built therein and is attached as an integral construction through an insulator 4 and a flange 5 to a structure 1 reserving liquid metal. when the level 2 of the liquid metal rises to contact with the leading end of the detecting rod 3, the circuit between a power source 8 and the rod 3 is made to operated a liquid level indicator 9. Since, in this instance, the exothermic element 6 is connected with its power source 11 thereby to heat the rod 3 and the insulator 4, the vapors of the metal can be prevented from wetting the surface of the insulator 4 so that the formation of an erroneous closed circuit can be prevented together with the erroneous indication.
