Abstract

PURPOSE: To readily and accurately obtain the temperature of the bulk of a stationary ball by measuring the oil temperatures of the portions encircled by the four steel balls close to friction areas.
CONSTITUTION: Before the test, the center and side wall oil temperatures are in an equilibrium state and are kept equal to the temperature of the bulk of a stationary ball 1. Since the temperature rise 4 of the bulk of the steel ball 1 is roughly equal to the temperature rise of the oil temperature in the central part 3 enclosed by the four steel balls, the temperature rise of the bulk of the stationary ball 1 may be readily and accurately obtained by directly measuring the temperature rise of the oil temperature of the central part 3 with a thermocouple type thermometer 6.
