Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain always optimum lock-on position, by detecting the minimum gauge part in the vicinity of the end part of material being rolled, excluding the crop part, and setting this minimum gauge part as the lock-on position. CONSTITUTION:When a material being rolled 10 reaches a rolling stand biting of the material 10 into work rolls 12 is detected from rolling pressure F of the output of a load cell 16 in a comparator 18. As a result, timers 28, 30 start to operate, and the rolling pressure of the output of the load cell 16 is inputted into an A/D converter circuit 20 to be changed into a digital signal, which is inputted into a roll eccentricity removing circuit 22, so that the gauge fluctuation portion due to effects of roll eccentricity may be removed. The output from the circuit 22 is inputted into a differentiating circuit 24, and the crest and trough middle point of the rolling pressure fluctuations are detected. A lock-on position decision circuit 26 detects the first trough middle point of rolling pressure fluctuations from the polarity change after lapse of specified time (e.g. 0.1sec), and outputs this point as the lock-on signal.
