Abstract

PURPOSE: To form an alcohol sensor which permits sensing of alcohol easily immediately after a person has breathed thereinto, by providing in a transparent tube a check valve and an alcohol detection agent which is capable of discoloring when it senses alcohol, and fitting filters into both end portions of the tube to hold the check valve and alcohol detection agent therein.
CONSTITUTION: Granulated silica gel (alcohol detection agent) 3, which has a chemical agent (for example, acidified potassium chromate) adsorbed thereon which is capable of discoloring when it reacts with alcohol, is placed in a transparent tube 1. Discs 4, 4' having a plurality of air bores and connected to each other with a horizontal partition 5, and a holder 6 having semicircular check valves 7, 7' are provided at a blow-in side of the tube 1. Filters 2, 2' are provided on the outer side of the silica gel 3 and outer disc 4 to form an alcohol sensor. When a person breathes into the tube 1 from a rear end 9 thereof, the alcohol in the exhalation reacts with the granules 3 to change the color thereof so that the state of intoxication of the person can be determined.
