Abstract

PURPOSE: A phenolic resin composition having a high curing rate without whitening deterioration, prepared by adding a specific calcium hydroxide in the form of milk of lime as a curing accelerator to a precondensate of a novolak phenolic resin.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A precondensate of novolak phenolic resin is incorporated with (B) hexamethylene tetramine and (C) 4W10% based on (A) of calcium hydroxide in the form of milk of lime as a curing accelerator to give the objective composition. The ingredient (A) can be obtained by reacting a phenol, e.g. phenol or cresol, or a phenol modified with lignin, with an aldehyde, e.g. formaldehyde, in the presence of an acid catalyst. A filler, release agent, or pigment may be added.
