Abstract

PURPOSE: On the melt polycondensation reaction of a polyester mainly consisting of polyethylene terephthalate, PACM (bis-p-aminocyclohexylmethane) is added for copolymerization to give title polyester fibers used for tire cords and others.
CONSTITUTION: On the melt polycondensation reaction of a polyester mainly consisting of polyethylene terephthalate, PACM, a mixture thereof with an aromatic dicarboxylic acid or their reaction product is added to the polyester by 0.5W20wt%. The resulting polymer is spun to give high-modulus olyester fibers. The addition of phenolic heat stabilizer is preferred to prevent the discoloration and reduction in heat resistance. The incorporation of PACM gives the same high modulus fibers as in the copolymerization with high-stiffness aromatic diamine and further improves the copolymerizability and spinnability.
