Abstract

PURPOSE: A novel soil modifier that is composed of foamed particles of styrene- maleic anhydride copolymer, thus having high water-holding properties and being used in form of primary foamed particles.
CONSTITUTION: The objective soil modifier is composed of amorphous and primary foamed particles of styrene-maleic anhydride, copolymer which preferably contains 2W2.5wt% of maleic anhydride, has 900W2,500 polymerization degree and has 15mm or less average particle size and 0.005W0.03g/cm3 particle bulk density. The amount of said soil modifier used is preferably 10W50vol% on the basis of the soil.
