Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce and decrease the metal oxides in oxide slag, ease the transfer to reducing period and produce the steel which is free from non-metallic inclusions and is superior in cleanliness by adding SiC into the furnace at the terminal period of the oxidizing period during electric furnace steel making process.
CONSTITUTION: Steel scraps are charged into the electric furnace and are melted by the arc, etc. by an electrode. Raw materials containing iron oxide such as iron ore and scale are added and the P, Zn, Sn, Al, Si and C in the molten steel are oxidation-refined. In the next reducing process, the metal oxides having entered the oxide slag are reduced to improve the yield thereof and desulfurization-refine the molten steel. Here, SiC is added at about 3W10kg per ton of the raw material steel scraps used, prior to ending of the oxidizing period. Since SiC has extremely large reducing power, it prevents the over-oxidation of the molten steel in the oxidizing period and reduces the oxidation losses of Cr, Mn, Fe, etc. At the same time, it improves the utilization efficiency of reducing agents in the reducing period, eases the reduction-refining and saves the consumption of heat energy.
