Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the catalyst plug from explosion and the jar from thermal deformation, deterioration, burning, etc., by providing an enclosing plate between the catalyst container and the catalyst plug exterior. CONSTITUTION:The catalyst plug is formed in such a way that a catalyst container 16 made of porous explosionproof filter is housed in a catalyst plug exterior 13 and a lid 14 with a porous explosion-proof filter 15 is placed on the exterior 13. A gas- impervious heat-resistant enclosing plate 18 is attached vertically to the periphery of the back of the filter 15 so that the enclosing plate 18 encircles the catalyst container 16. This arrangement permits the gas generated in the battery to flow from the passage A to the catalyst 17 which causes reaction to take place. In case gas is generated in large quantities, the unreacted, saturated gas does not go through the gap 19 but goes through the passage B to the filter 15 to be discharged to the atmosphere. Thus, it is possible to prevent the catalyst plug from explosion.
