Abstract

1492970 Catalytic devices for recombining battery gases JAPAN STORAGE BATTERY CO Ltd 19 Dec 1974 54526/74 Heading H1B Oxygen and hydrogen formed by overcharging a battery are recombined by passing them through a porous chamber 6 of e.g. alumina containing particles 7 of, e.g. alumina coated with Pd, and condensing the vapour on an inverted cup-shaped member 5 which may be integral with or adjustably positioned with respect to a an outer member 3. Excess gas may escape through a filter 8, to prevent backfire, and a port 9. Two catalytic devices may be provided in series or in parallel (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown). The device may be screwed into a filling post in the battery or contained within the battery (Fig. 5, not shown).
