Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect the rotating speed of a motor by utilizing the variations of an armature current instantaneously produced upon shorting of the commutator of the motor by a brush.
CONSTITUTION: An electric current is applied through brushes B1, B2 of a DC motor 1 to a commutator S. When commutator pieces S1, S2 are shorted by the brush B1 while the motor 1 is rotating, a current flowing through an armature M varies. This variations in the current is picked up as a voltage change across a resistor R connected in series with the armature M to detect it as number per unit time so as to detect the rotating speed of the motor.
