Abstract
PURPOSE:To simplify recording of high track density with a little cross talk, by making effective track width in signal read mode less than that in write mode by giving a difference in level at both side parts of the track surface of the core of a magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:Ring type magnetic head core 1, which consists of magnetic-substance core blocks 2 and 3 butted by a fixture such as glass with gap 4 given, is provided with coil 6. Difference 5b in level is provided on both sides of track surface 5 including gap 4 of core 1. Width (l) of difference 5b in level depends upon a track pitch, width L in track-surface center 5a of core 1, and a setting error of the head in the track-width direction on a tape, etc. Further, height (h) of difference 5b in level is preferably as high as possible, but should be less than an integer greater than gap length (g). Thus, L+2l is effective track width in write mode and only L is the effective track width in read mode.
