Abstract

PURPOSE: Epoxy resin composition, improved in water- and brine resistance without reduction of its oil resistance, which comprises epoxy resin and a resin obtained by the reaction of an α,β-unsaturated dicarboxylic acid with aromatic petroleum resins obtained under specified conditions.
CONSTITUTION: A composition comprising 5W90pts.wt., of a resin and 95W 10pts.wt., of epoxy resin, said resin being obtained by reacting 2W20pts.wt. of an α,β-unsaturated dicarboxylic acid or its anhydride on 100pts.wt., of a resin obtained by polymerizing, with addition of Friedel-Crafts catalysts, a system in which 7W25pts.wt. of phenols are added to 100ptw.wt., of a hydrocarbon fraction which boils at 140W220°C and contains byproduct unsaturated hydrocarbons from petroleum cracking, etc. When said phenols are added in less than 7pts.wt., it is slightly soluble in the epoxy resin and when in more than 25pts.wt., not only the color deteriorates, but also the water- and brine resistances of the epoxy resin composition obtained are reduced.
