Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an epoxy resin composition giving a coating film with excellent heat resistance and weather resistance, without problems of workplace pollution, and composed of a modified hydrocarbon resin, an epoxy resin, and a hardener.
CONSTITUTION: A composition composed of (A) a modified hydrocarbon resin obtained by the copolymerization of (a) a hydrocarbon resin obtained by the polymerization of an unsaturated hydrocarbon-containing fraction containing ≥40 wt% of dicyclopentadiene, an unsaturated hydrocarbon-containing fraction obtained by the cracking of petroleum and having a boiling point range of -20W+280°C or their mixture, and (b) a high-boiling by-product produced by the production of phenols or naphthols by the cracking of hydroperoxides, in the presence of (c) a cationic polymerization catalyst, (B) an epoxy resin, and (C) a hardener.
