Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce NaOH through efficient and economical performance of diaphragm method electrolysis by refining salt water then preheating and electrolyzing the same and circulating the resultant H2 gas and Cl2 gas to preheating process. CONSTITUTION:Salt water 1 is supplied to a refining process 2, where it is refined. The refined salt water is sent through line 3 to a preheating process 4, where it is heat-exchanged with the H2 gas and Cl2 gase sent through lines 10, 9 from an electrolysis process 8 by heat exchangers 5', 5, whereby it is heated to the salt water 6 of high temperature. The salt water 6 is further heated to high temperature by a heater 7 using steam. This heated salt water is sent to the electrolysis process 8, where it is electrolyzed in an electrolytic cell and is taken out as Cl2 gas, H2 and caustic soda 11 containing edible salt. The edible salt is dissolved in the salt water which has been heated in the preheating process 4 and has been steam-heated, if necessary, to a high temperature to increase its concentration further, whereby the electric energy required for electrolysis in the electrolysis process 8 may be additionally reduced.
