Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a thermoplastic resin useful as a heat insulating material, etc. and having self-etinguishing properties, improved weather resistance and solvent resistance and short processing time, by impregnating a vinylaromatic monomer to particles of a vinyl chloride polymer and a polyolefin, and polymerizing the monomer.
CONSTITUTION: 10W50wt.% of particles comprising 70W100wt.% of a vinyl chloride polymer or a vinyl chloride copolymer and 30W0wt.% of a polyolefin polymer, is suspended in an aqueous medium, and 90W50wt.% of a vinylaromatic monomer is added to the suspension. The monomers absorbed to the particles are heat- polymerized in the presence of a polymerization catalyst to give the desired resin particles. A gaseous or liquid blowing agent is preferably impregnated in the preparation of the resin particles.
EFFECT: The aging time in the impregnation of the blowing agent is not necessary, and a high blowing ratio can be attained in a short time. There is no difference between the foaming curves a and b which represent before and after aging, respectively. The blowing time is shorter than that of a commercial expandable resin (curve c).
