Abstract

PURPOSE: To miniaturize a Na-I solid electrolyte battery and improve performance thereof by providing unit pipes having triangular, square or any shaped section with honey-comb type partitions arranged adjacent each other.
CONSTITUTION: An unit pipe 2 having a honey-comb type partition 1 can have triangular, square, hexagonal or any other shaped sections. Each unit pipe 2 can be used for positive electrode cell (+,3) or negative electrode cell (-,4) according to the arrangement. A partition between a set of adjacent anode cells 3 and negative electrode cells 4 is formed by a honey-comb partition 1 of β alumina. The negative electrode cell 4 is preferably filled with Na, for example and provided with negative electrode 6. Preferably in this case layer of auxiliary electrolyte 13 (non-aquous electrolyte having NaClO4 and the like dissolved into propylenecarbonate and the like) is formed on the surface of negative electrode side of the partition 1. The positive electrode cell 3 is preferably filled with positive electrode reaction accelerator having aqueous solution of NaI and the like containing I. The unit battery 9 is formed by such adjacent positive and negative cells.
