Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide crosslinked polyvinyl chloride resin in which discoloration due to heating or irradiation is inhibited by adding a metal salt of benzoic acid to crosslinkable polyvinyl chloride resin compsn.
CONSTITUTION: Not less than 0.3pts.wt. of a metal salt of benzoic acid is added to 100pts.wt. of crosslinkable polyvinyl chloride resin compsn. The crosslinkable polyvinyl choride resin compsn. contains polyvinyl chloride resin, or copolymer, graft copolymer or blend consisting mainly of polyvinyl chloride and polyfunctional monomer having at least two unsaturated gp. to carry out effectively crosslinking reaction. The metal salt of benzoic acid in an amount less than 0.3pts.wt. has no effect. An amount of from 0.3 to 5pts.wt. has no effect. An amount of from 0.3 to 5pts.wt. is preferred. In an amount more than 5pts.wt., the function is saturated, and the use of the metal salt of benzoic acid damages electrical characteristics and physical properties.
