Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide reliable liquid tightness between cells without being restricted by the battery dimensions by filling the recess at the top of a battery case partition with a cell connector pressed therein. CONSTITUTION:A plate group 7 consisting of an positive electrode group 8 and a negative electrode group 9 is contained in a battery case 1 having a partition 5, and a connector 10 of the plate groups in adjacent cells connects the cells through the recess formed at the top of the partition 5. A lid 3 covers the top of the battery case 1 and sealed thereto to form a lead battery. The connection of the cells is made by arranging a head part 12 of the connector 10 on the recess at the top of the partition 5 and pressing it into the recess using a press-in tool 16 while forming a groove 14 thereon. Said press-in operation presses the connector 10 on the partition 5 with tight fit and the lower part of the lid 3 is pressed against the groove 14 of the head part 12 at the time it is sealed to the battery case 1 to provide a good liguid tightness.
