Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of quenching crack and quenching strain by making possible high-speed hardening by the water-base quenching agent which is obtainable by dissolving or dispersing the low polymer or low copolymer of butadiene containing the specific basic and acidic groups in water. CONSTITUTION:The low polymer of butadiene of 300-10000 in number average molecular weight which contains the basic groups and acidic groups expressed by formula I (R1 is H, halogen or C1-8, R2, R3 and R4 are the organic residual groups of mutually the same or different C1-20 and X denotes H or bond and in the case of bond, the carbon atoms attaching to R1 and the carbon atoms attaching adjoining H to said carbon atoms may both form part of the main chain) at a ratio 0.05- 0.5mol per 100g of the polymer or its low copolymer containing 50wt% or less of its copolymer component is dissolved or dispersed in water at a concentration of 30wt% or less. The resultant water-base quenching agent is stable over a wide range of pH and the washing of the quenching agent is extremely easy.
