Abstract

CONSTITUTION: The heating element is buried at the middle part of concave substrate 1 of the CO concentration detecting gas sensor for the engine exhaust gas. At the same time, thermocouples 2a and 2b are provided at arm parts 1a and 1b of substrate 1, and the coating layer is formed over the thermocouples. And catalyst 4 is held on coating layer 7b of thermocouple 2a to secure the reaction to CO. When the exhaust gas touches the sensor element, the catalyst reaction is caused at part 1b to generate the heat. And then the differential thermal electromotive force is generated between output terminals 3a and 3c due to the temperature difference between thermocouples 2a and 2b. Then the output of the electromotive force is detected in order to secure detection for the CO concentration in the exhaust gas.
