Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain highly active lithium-aluminium alloy by a simple process by the chemical reaction of metallic alumium and a lithium-containing organometallic compound. CONSTITUTION:Metallic aluminium is chemically reacted with a Li-containing organometallic compound, e.g., n-butyllithium to form a Li-Al alloy. This method makes the manufacturing process simpler than the conventional melting method and also permits the manufacture of very fine active substance powders. For example, a 400 mesh-passing grain size of 99.9% purity Al powders is gradually put into a container of 500 ml of n-butyllithium, allowed to stand for 24 hours, filtered, and dried.
