Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain title resin which is polymerizable in high yield without gelation at a polymn. temp. around room temp. by copolymerizing cyclopentadiene with unsaturated hydrocarbons in the presence of organometallic cpd. and transition metal cpd.
CONSTITUTION: A cyclopentadiene cpd. is copolymerized with an unsaturated hydrocarbon in the presence of a catalyst consisting of (A) at least one selected from organomethallic cpd. of metals of the Groups IWIV of the Periodic Table and (B) at least one transition metal cpd. selected from tungasten, molybdenum and selenium. A preferred cyclopentadiene cpd. is cyclopentadiene. Preferred unsaturated hydrocarbons are isobutylene and styrene. Preferred organomethallic cpd. are organoaluminum cpd. and organotin cpd. Preferred transition metal cpd. are pentavalent or hexavalent tungsten halide and pentavalent molybdenum halide.
