Abstract

PURPOSE: A carcinostatic agent that contains a specific antibiotic of allaric-γ-lactone, thus being effective on mouse ascitic cancer.
CONSTITUTION: Said carcinostatic agent contains 4-O-phospho-2-O-[4-O-(adenyl-β- D-ribofuranosid-5-yl)-α-D-glucopyranosyl]-allaric-γ-lactone. This compound shows anticarcinostatic acitivity against mouse ascitic cancer and leukemia and is also effective on such other animals as man. The compound of formula is obtained by intramolecular dehydration of allaric acid of formula II that is produced by a microorganism belonging to Bacillus thuringiensis. The intramolecular dehydration is effected by the catalytic action of strong acid type cation exchange resin or by heating to 50W60°C under acidic conditions.
