Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a thin-walled container suitably used as a container for food and having a uniform thickness, a large depth and a high thermal resistance, by subjecting a sheet material to a compressed air molding with an auxiliary plug having an improved shape with respect to a female mold. CONSTITUTION:A preheated sheet 1 which is fixed at its circumferential portion by chucks 9 is drawn into a female mold 2 by downward movements of a plug 5 and a molding box 3. When the plug 5 has been moved to a limit depth, substantially the whole of the inner surface of the preheated sheet 1 contacts the outer surface of the plug 5. The thickness of the sheet 1 drawn into the female mold 2 is gradually decreased from that portion of the sheet 1 which is in contact with a front portion of the plug 5 to that portion of the sheet 1 which is in contact with a rear end portion of the plug 5. After the sheet 1 has been tightly held at its circumferential portion between the molding box 3 and female mold 2, compressed air is supplied into the molding box 3 to mold the sheet 1 onto the surface of the female mold 2.
