Abstract

PURPOSE: To stabilize interferon (I) during freeze-drying, by adding trishydroxymethylaminomethane, a polyethylene nonionic surfactant, and an antibiotic as stabilizers to I.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution containing interferon (I) is mixed with trishydroxymethylaminomethane, a polyoxyethylene-polyoxypropylene copolymer, a polyethylene nonionic surfactant, an antibiotic, e.g. kanamycin, a salt of an organic acid, e.g. caprylic acid, a chelating agent, or an aromatic amine solely or in combination, and freeze-dried to prevent the inactivation of I. The great deterioration of activity can thus be prevented in purification, particularly freeze-drying of human interferon.
