Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a laser light output linearly polarized without strain by arranging laser medium between a pair of laser reflecting mirrors and using anisotropic medium as the medium when amplifying the laser light pulse. CONSTITUTION:A pair of laser reflecting mirrors 31, 32 are arranged in parallel to face each other, and an anisotropic medium 34 is disposed between the mirrors 31 and 32. In this state the laser transition sectional area of the medium 34 is so formed that the area of linearly polarized light of first direction along an optical axis within a vertical plane is larger than that of the linearly polarized light of second direction. Then, the medium 34 is laser oscillated axially using an exciter 33, an input laser light pulse P31 is simultaneously applied from the mirror 31 side, and there is thus obtained an output laser light pulse P32 amplified through a photodetector 35 from the mirror 32 side. Since the medium disposed between the mirrors is thus anisotropic, no strain occurs in the output waveform.
