Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a power transmitting apparatus, in which a set of gears are mounted respectively on input shaft and output shaft, and these gears are coupled selectively by turning a member for establishing coupling between the input shaft and the output shaft, whereby it is enabled to reduce the axial length and to make the structure compact.
CONSTITUTION: Gears 8, 9, 10 are fixed on input shaft 2, whereas gears 13, 14, 15 are mounted in freely rotatable manner on output shaft 3. Straight splines 3a are formed on the outer peripheral surface of output shaft 3 and selector block 17 is held in mesh with the splines 3a. When shift fork 20 is moved by the aid of shift drum 23 to a required position, arm 18a of selector dog 18 is turned around pin 19 by the intermediary of selector block 17 and comes into engagement with either of coupling portions 13a or 14b or 15c respectively of gears 13, 14, 15 on the output shaft 3. As the result, output shaft 3 is turned at a revolutional speed thus selected. On the other hand, when the arm 18a is located leftwards of the coupling portion 13a, input shaft 2 and output shaft 3 are uncoupled from each other.
