Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a laterally oriented weft web directly by a fibrous stock through one process by continuously laterally orienting the fibrous stock while heating the stock along a belt track and longitudinally opening the part of the stock to be held by belts by spliting to produce the stock as a laterally oriented weft web. CONSTITUTION:A tubularly formed fibrous material 1 is laterally oriented in a downward direction as designated by an arrow in a drawing as interposed at its selvage ends between inside belts 4, 4' and outside belts 5, 5' while being heated in the interior of the tubular material with hot air injected from above a tube 3 while being fed vertically downwardly in the drawing through nipping rollers 2, 2'. The material is so laterally oriented as guided by vertical lattice bars reinforcing a belt supporting frame that the shape of its cross section may substantially become flat elliptical similar to rectangular shape. The belts 4, 4' are supported at its back surfaces by a number of guide pulleys 6, 6' and tension control guide pulleys 7, 7' mounted adjacent to each other. The belts 5, 5' for interposing the material with the belts 4, 4' from outside at its selvage ends, are pushed on its back surfaces by guide pulleys 8, 8' and tension control guide pulleys 9, 9', thereby preventing the selvage ends of the material from sliding toward the slender stock supply side.
