Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide the device which is readily capable of stable thermal working by performing thermal fusion-bonding and thermal working of optical fibers by using a carbon heating element as a heating source. CONSTITUTION:The resistance heating element composed of carbon consists of power feed elements 1, 1, resistance heating part 2 and an optical fiber insertion hole 3. The end part 5 of the optical fiber 4 inserted into the hole 3 is thermally fused and the state in which said end part is spheroidized by its surface tension is illustrated. The use of the carbon heating element as a heat source in this way yields the device which is readily capable of performing stable thermal working of the optical fiber ends.
