EXAMPLE: (E)-1α-Acetoxy-2α-(5-acetoxypentyl)-3β-(3-oxo-4,4-dimethyl-1-octenyl-4α-(tetrahydropyran-2-yloxy)-cyclopentane.
USE: An intermediate for preparing prostaglandin analogs.
PROCESS: A compound of formula V (R6 is R4 except H) is subjected to the witting reaction with a compound of the formula (R7O)2POCH2CO-R2-R3 (R7 is 1W4C alkyl) in an inert solvent to give the compound of formula I (R1 is -CH2OR6; Y is formula III; Z is formula II).
