Abstract
PURPOSE: An insecticidal and preservative material that is made by burning crushed obsidian and impregnating the foamed and swollen particles or granules with insecticide and preservative, thus evolving the insecticide and preservative gradually to prevent surely the wood from attack by termites and microorganisms and further keeping moisture-proof properties.
CONSTITUTION: Obsidian is crushed and burnt into foamed and swollen particles and granules, which are impregnated with insecticide and preservative against termite and microorganisms decaying wood, e.g. a fungus 'namidatake' (Gyrophana lacrymans) to give said material. The particles have separated foams inside and the surface has coarse texture to adsorb and hold the chemicals. The core part of the coarse texture has large warm-keeping property and diffuse the chemicals gradually. Since the particles have large capacity of controlling temperature and preventing humidity, they are spread on the ground under the floor of Japanese style houses to prevent surely the attack by termite and microorganisms rotting wood.
