Abstract

PURPOSE: To automatically apply an inverse voltage to a thyristor to turn it off, by providing a single transistor in front of a plurality of thyristors and turning off the transistor.
CONSTITUTION: To turn off a thyristor 2U+, the gate signal for the thyristor and the base signal for the transistor 6+ are simultaneously eliminated. At that time, the transistor 6+ is turned off immediately and the current flowing through the thyristor 2U+ is cut off. However, the thyristor does not remain off unless an inverse voltage is applied thereto. Therefore, the inverse voltage is applied from a second DC power source 5 to the thyristor.
