Abstract
PURPOSE: To secure the inconspicuous boundary between blocks by carrying out the encoding process through division of the picture into the odd and even blocks.
CONSTITUTION: The odd blocks are those composed of 8 picture elements of the black dot part among 4 × 4 picture elements enclosed by the solid lines; wile the even blocks are those which are composed of 8 picture elements of the white dot part among 4 × 4 picture elements enclosed by the dotted lines. Block forming circuit 12 draws the picture elements first from the odd blocks into block memory 13 among the picture element rows which are digital-converted 11 and given from TV camera 10, and the picture elements drawn in are encoded through encoding process circuit 14 with every block. In other words, the encoding is carried out by isolating the picture into the gradation and resolution components, and then the encoded picture signals are transferred to buffer memory 15 and then delivered 16. After end of the encoding process for one block, circuit 12 draws again the picture elements of the adjacent odd blocks into memory 13. Thus, after encoding of the odd blocks, circuit 12 draws the even blocks into memory 13.
