Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce axial deformation caused at the heating sweeping of reaction system and stably obtain the stock of high right circularity by providing a means of forcefully cooling the reaction system which deposits the glass raw material gases having been supplied to the inside wall of a tubular object to optical fiber glass. CONSTITUTION:A force cooling system 5 including a control valve 51 which is so controlled as to become open only during the time when a heating system 3 resets in the upstream direction after sweeping from the raw material upper stream to the lower stream is provided. The most softened portion of the quartz glass tube immediate before the heating system 3 resets to the upper stream after sweeping toward the raw material lower stream is force-cooled by spouting a nitrogen gas from an introducing tube 52 within the time when the heating system resets and moves. As a result, at the time when the heating system 3 restarts sweeping to the lower stream, the entire part of the quartz tube of the reaction tube 2 has been sufficiently cooled except the portion in the oxyhydrogen flame of the heating system and has hardened to the extent at which deformation is virtualy impossible.
