Abstract

PURPOSE: Raw material for electrically seamed steel pipe is added with a specified amount of Al, Nb, Ni or further Cu, thereby preventing occurrence of groove corrosion at welded zone.
CONSTITUTION: The steel containing C<0.30%, Si<0.35%, Mn; 0.1 to 1.0% further includes one or more of Al; 0.05 to 0.40%, Nb; 0.01 to 0.15%, Ni; 0.05 to 0.60% and, if required, with addition of Cu; 0.05 to 0.80%. When this composition steel plate is electrically seamed to form pipes, Al, Nb and Ni will act to enhance resistivity to groove corrosion at welded zone. The contained Cu, when used, will dissolve out at initial stage of groove corrosion, which will then reprecipitate, preventing further corrosion to proceed. Therefore, weld-seamed pipes can be used, as it is bare, without causing any groove corrsion at welded zone.
