Abstract

PURPOSE:Molten steel is treated for first desulfnrization and then deoxidization. The treated molten steel is poured into continuous casting mold together with wire of rare earth element to produce steel having excellent resistivity to hydrogen sulfide cracking. CONSTITUTION:Na2CO3 or CaCO3 is added to molten steel in ladel and agitated together to desulfurize contained S below 0.004%. Into this low sulfur steel, Ar gas is blown to bubble the steel, thereby deoxidizing the steel to reduce (0) content below 0.0030%. While the molten steel is poured into continuous casting mold, a wire material consisting of iron-coated rare earth element is simultaneously added to the molten steel. The added rare earth metal is efficiently incorporated into the molten steel, effecting complete spheroidization of included material such as MnS in the molten steel and resulting in the production of steel having excellent hydrogen sulfide crack resitivity.
